St Lucia, Club St Lucia 1997

Our first long haul holiday, for our 25th anniversary, the second all inclusive holiday in a row, with friends Dave and Anglia. This was supposed to be Nicole's wedding but it ended up as a very good holiday for us and Dave and Anglia.

Flew from Manchester, we went down the day before and stayed at a hotel, were we met Dave and Anglia. As we used the hotel our parking for the airport was now free.

Club St Lucia, was the purpose built holiday resort we stayed at but air conditioning is really required, which we didn't have at first, but after complaining we got it. We also got much better accommodation but we had to pay for it at first, we got our money back later though.

The resort was fantastic with very good beaches and all water sports were included, as were so many cocktails.

Even though we were all inclusive we still had quite a few trips out, we even hired a speedboat and driver for the day and had a trip to Soufrière for lunch. We also had a look at the twin peaks that are the emblem of St Lucia, Gros Piton and the Petit Piton.

We also had a walk through the rainforest to a warm waterfall and walked and sat underneath it. Then Dave and Angela had a go at water skiing, back near where we were staying at Rodney Bay.

Gros Piton

One of us won a bus trip, so the rest of us had to pay and join in, the main part of the trip was to the market in the capital Castries. It also went to several other places where it was basically to sell thing to us, we looked as some and at the last place, we went into a bar opposite for a drink.

The first week we got the coach from the site into Gros Islet for the famous, Gros Islet Friday Night Street Party. Which was very good but we didn't really need the coach from the site.

We walked into Gros Islet, and got a boat across into the main part of Rodney Bay, we had a drink over there and a swim in the bar pool.

We also walked to Pigeon Island, with its 18th century British fort and Fort Rodney, both used by the British to spy on French Ships from neighbouring Martinique. Looking at the maps, there seems to be two hotels on the land leading to the island now.

After walking up to the top of Pigeon Island, we wandered down to the sea side and found a very small bar, where we had a pint each.

For our second visit to Gros Islet Friday Night Street Party, we walked there and much latter got a taxi back to the hotel.

As everything at the hotel was free, we spent most of our time there though, and made friends with another couple with the same surname as Dave. We ate at all of the restaurants on the site we went to different parties we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
